The mission of selling raffle tickets- 19.08.2013 by Sarah Casey
Selling raffle tickets this week with the teacher was definitely my highlight of the week. We were all on a mission to sell as many tickets as we could. The money that we raise is going towards the water piping for the pre-school. She was asking everybody in sight as we walked around the village. She would say buy 5 tickets 100 rupees, she was disappointed when they only bought one for 20 rupees. We asked a tuk tuk driver if he wanted to buy a ticket, under dourest he bought one with all the pressure we were putting on him. We also went to some very expensive houses to which Laura and the teacher joked they should buy 10 tickets! In the middle of our selling, we were invited into a lady’s house for tea. It was mad we felt awful as we were sat in the house of a complete stranger but she was so happy to see us. She lives on her own, so she was pleased to have some company for the short time we stayed. She told us about her family and that she had divorced her husband many years ago and now her children have grown up and are now married. It was nice to put a smile on her made face and that made it a very worthwhile tea break. We went all over selling the tickets the teacher was not giving up, she is a tough woman and was not being easily tired. We made a lot of money and filled the tin! All in all a very productive and fulfilling day!
