Second week at Sabaragamawa University by Sarah Casey- 31.07.2013
It was the second week of the Sabaragamuwa University programme and we had sessions with both the non academic staff and the students. We also attended the pre schools which were great fun and the views were spectacular. The non academic session was successful; we had ten students all of which were keen to practice their spoken English. We started with role plays about practical topics including going to the shops, going to a restaurant and travel. We then went onto speaking about ourselves each in turn including information about our family, home and work. They enjoyed this and it ended in a diversion onto different topics including marriage, divorce, abortions, culture etc as they were interested to hear the differences in views between Sri Lanka and the UK. Overall both we and the staff enjoyed exchanging knowledge and we all gained a lot from the session.
