Friday 27th August by Alice
This week Neesha, Becky, Charlotte, Kara, Joe and I returned to Colombo for our second, very different, visit. The focus of this week was on viewing and assisting various Sarvodya projects based in the capital which gave us an interesting new insight into the different aspects of the organisation. We returned to the orphanage where I was surprised to see how much they had all grown in two months! It was lovely to meet the new additions to the orphanage including a beautiful two month old baby. We were also welcomed into a home for elder women where we were happy to discover that several women had high proficiency in English. It was really interesting to hear some of their stories and I was especially moved by some of the reasons they now lived in the home. On Friday we visited a home for young mothers and played with the children and learnt a little about the backgrounds of the mothers. We saw several classes including needlework with expectant mums. I was really impressed by the project and its’ warm and friendly atmosphere. I was pleased to be able to see some of the other projects in Sarvodya and would love for them to have a greater involvement in Project Sri Lanka in future years.
