The perfect place to spend your holidaysIn the morning we all visited the local hotels to inform them about Ishan´s internet business and see if they would be interested in advertising his business to tourists. Most of the hotels did not have internet of their own and were very happy to help Ishan out. We chatted to the staff about when the season starts for them as it is currently a very quiet period. One hotel in particular stated that they start to get guests around the begining of August and so we plan to return and hopefully chat with them about their resons for being here. This will provide a great opportunity to gain insight into tourists needs and expectations of the area as well as the opportunity to ´talk up´ the wonderful place that is Moraketiara.
After another delightful lunch in the house we left for our 1.45 lesson at Moraketiara school. We began with some singing and have descovered the ´hoakey-coakey´ is most definitely a favourite song among this age group. Next, we aimed to refresh the childrens minds from last week, but with a more innovative way of learning today- introducing a ball into the equation! This worked very well and the children were extremely excited to be learning in this way. We all made a circle and passed the ball around whilst asking and answering the questions ´what is your name?´and ´how old are you?´.
After school Dirk and myself made a new friend who shared my enthusiasm about cricket! The young boy joined us in a game of cricket on the beach and we organised a game for tomorrow with more of the boys from the village. The recruitment was in this boys hands so we are not too sure how it will go!
For the 4.30 class in the house Oliver and Claudia covered colours, counting and animals and finished off with a few songs. The children ranged from 6 years of age to 10 and the language barrier was very apparent. However progress was made, all the children were very enthusiastic and gave a an impressive level of effort.
