Monday 26th July by Nicola
Liam, Lauren, Becky and I will be spending this week in Kirelawela. For many of us it was our first chances to come back since the opening ceremony, so it was nice to finally get to see were our hard fundraised money was going to.The day started off as usual with us helping in the morning with the preschool, but unfortunately only 5 pupils were there. The teacher explained that this was likely to be because of tiredness due to the children staying up late the night before to watch the Pera Hera festival in Dondra.
The morning consisted of doing jigsaws and reading with the children, playing outside, and helping reinforce their basic English vocabulary, such as the name of colours, animals and the alphabet. In the afternoon, we helped with the after school activities, with a lot more people turning up than in the morning. The main activity was creating glasses out of card. The activity seemed to go down well, with some really good and fun designs emerging.
We also played some sports outside, with Becky showing off some excellent tennis skills and we also did some reading with a few members of the group. Overall it was a really enjoyable day and we all left excited for the week ahead.
