Saturday 24th to Monday 26th July
We enjoyed an amazing weekend in Kandy. We began the journey early on Saturday to arrive there midday. Two students accompanied us on the journey and were able to help us find a place to stay in a very nice rest house. After arriving and eating dinner we took a trip to the botanical gardens close by. They offered some amazing views and beautiful scenery. After this we traveled through the centre of Kandy to visit The Temple of the Tooth which famously holds Buddhas tooth. It was an amazing and interesting place to look around and see a place of worship, on the way out of the temple we then had our first encounter with some elephants stood just outside the gates. We walked into the centre of the city at evening time and experienced some of the local markets and trades which offered some time for personal shopping.
On Sunday we were lucky enough to be able to go the near by elephant orphanage on the way home in which we were all very excited for. After seeing all the elephants and getting plenty of photographs we then watched the baby elephants being fed before heading down to the river and watching them all have there daily bath and play in the water. On the way back to the coach before heading back we went through an elephant market in which we nearly all purchased some souvenirs.
