Friday 9th July by Nicola
Today, we spent the day visiting the villages and schools of previous teams. Me and four others visited Rassandeniya, which was home to the 2007 Project Sri Lanka team. Though we were unexpected guests, we were quickly welcome and including in the morning activities. The children were shy of us to begin with but they soon warmed up to us.
We brought with us a few gifts of new school supplies such as books and crayons which were greatly received. The morning consisted of drawing, sing songs and playing games such as duck, duck, goose. Though the time playing outside with the children did make us realise that the dealing with the heat will be a problem in the coming weeks.
The preschool had about 9 children in it, which is less than usual as some where off due to illness. The children were all adorable and it was hard to resist the temptation to try and take one home with us. Mrs Felicita, the preschool teacher, was a welcoming host and it was clear to see that she cared deeply for the children. The school room still had banner up of the 2007 team and we were showed pictures of the team’s time there, it looks like they had an amazing time.
It was heartening to see that the school was still being put to good use and being cared for. We are looking forward to continuing to get know the children better over the coming weeks and our next visit to the school next week coincides with the dance teacher coming which should be a great experience.
