Monday 19th to Wednesday 21st July
On Monday Rob Cramb, our Phisiology lecturer from Durham presented lectures about sport and exercise physiology to the Sri Lankan students. In the afternoon, the Sri Lankan students, assisted by ourselves worked out Body Mass Index and body composition percentages on themselves and each other. On Tuesday the focus was upon maximal fitness testing and consisted of a number of different V02 max tests including the yoyo test, the bleep test and the 12 minute cooper run. All of these we had studied at university in the UK. The students found the practical element very tiring but have now built up a good theoretical knowledge base on how to judge their fitness for their chosen sports.
That evening we all went out to a lovely local restaurant called the Water Garden which was situated next to a waterfall.
Wednesday consisted of sprint tests followed by a selection of sit up and press up tests. Rob and Sam then departed for Columbo after a busy few days. It was an invaluable experience for the Sri Lankan students to gain a greater insight into exercise physiology and Robs teaching methods!
