Saturday 15th August – The last days at Sabaragamuwa
It’s sad times for all- our last day at the University! We’ve said goodbye to almost everyone, and have no more equipment left in our bungalow. Everyone is pretty much packed- ensuring the priceless personal gifts we received from university staff, students and friends are well cushioned within our bags. In comparison to yesterday the weather has been transformed- blue sky all around. We have all touched up on our tans and wished all friends good luck in their forthcoming exams. Our last words of thanks will or course be directed to Professor Rupasinghe and his wife who have always been here for us. Their true hospitality has been wholly appreciated. We are due to leave the university after dinner this evening- with everyone craving our favourite noodles for the last supper. The flight leaves in the early hours of Sunday morning.
I’m sure everyone will agree with me that this has been an incredible project. We all feel privileged to be the first Sports team to take part in this project, and strongly believe that our knowledge and coaching has been invaluable to both the students in Sabaragamuwa University and in Ihalagalagama village. I believe we have set a high standard for future groups, and our ability to adapt to conditions has been a key asset. We really hope we have helped the small communities we have come into contact with, and judging by their heartfelt thanks it seems we have succeeded. Our pictures only reflect small parts of the experience- but all of it will remain with us for life. Thank you to all those who made this project happen.
