Saturday 8th – Sunday 9th August by Ashera
This weekend three members of our team; Jack, Becki and Matt made the long journey up to Adam’s Peak and climbed the some 5200 steps to the top of the rock face. They returned extremely tired and hungry on Sunday night but despite the fatigue, they felt exhilarated by their experience. The rest of the group listened on as they described the early morning climb and the amazing panoramic views they had whilst climbing the rock. It was an incredible achievement and one that has encouraged the rest of the team to make the climb. On Saturday, Rebecca and I visited the historic town of Galle, a journey that takes about an hour from Matara on the bus. As usual we were the subject of much fascination on the bus, especially me as people couldn’t quite work out if I was Sri Lankan or not. Once in Galle we took a walk around the dominating fort and then went to the infamous Anura’s for lunch. This was followed by a spot of afternoon shopping where many souveniers and gifts were bought. Our afternoon was rounded off by a cold iced coffee in Pedlar’s Inn, perfect in the heat. One of my favourite things about visiting Galle is the train journey back, to Matara. The views are really beautiful and it really feels like you are experiencing Sri Lanka this way.
Sunday was spent in an unusual way for us all at Moon Bridge. With no where to be and no imminent work to be done, we were able to relax and get ready for the week ahead. Lots of laundry was done as we all fast realized that clean clothes were becoming sparse and many books were read. We also conducted an aerobics session in the garden in an effort to try and burn off all the yummy rice and curry! It was a lovely weekend with us all being able to relax and experience more of the Sri Lankan culture.
