Saturday 25th July by Sam
The Saturday took on much of Friday in the way that much of it was spent on the beachEarly risers enjoyed the morning sunshine with everyone down on the beach before 10am. With no air-conditioning and a very poor fan in the hotel rooms, they mimicked something of an oven once past 9am so this made sleeping very difficult. Saturday morning was spent entirely on the beach. Breakfast for 2 of the guys was obtained from a local café selling rottys (pancakes), while others ordered food from either the hotel menu or the beach restaurant a short walk down the beach. The sea today was much more dangerous meaning swimming was a no-go as strong currents swept across the bay.
The afternoon was spent in Hikkaduwa itself, strolling down the main street seeing what bargains or presents anyone could find for themselves or members back home. Sri Lankan cricket shirts, bed spreads and even personalized shorts were bought before everyone met in the hotel again at 6pm for dinner. This time we decided to stroll and see what we could find, with us eventually decided on a little place called the budde’s restaurant. The food here was brilliant as was the waitor who had the best memory any of us had ever seen. Following the meal, once again the group split with only a few going to the beach restaurant for drinks while others went back to their bed tired after another day in the sun.
