19th August (written by Sophie)
Having spent the last 7 weeks teaching at Moraketiara School, our time at the Rotary sponsored school is sadly nearing an end, culminating in what will no doubt be a memorable event, namely the cultural show which we are putting on there next Friday. This will be performed to an audience of Rotarians visiting from Colombo and promises to be a spectacular show, with a dramatic performance of Macavity by grades 9 and 10, the story of the 3 little pigs performed by the younger children, lots of singing, and an English dance to the Mika song “Love Me”. The group will also be performing a scene from Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer’s Nights Dream’ and in addition, the show will see all of the girls dressed in full traditional Sri Lankan dress performing a dance taught to us by girls from Gandarawatte village. Over the past couple of weeks we have been working hard to teach and practice the songs, dance and drama pieces with all of the children at Moraketiara School ready for the show next week, and hope that it will be a success. We have heard that last year’s show made it onto YouTube, so expectations are high and we certainly have a lot to live up so, so fingers crossed it all goes well!
